Nondiscrimination Policy

At Ojisu, it is our mission to bring together people of different backgrounds in order to cultivate exceptional cultural exchange experiences and expand the international learning community. Our community is composed of thousands of individuals of many different cultures, origins, and identities. We embrace diversity and believe that is provides the opportunity to expand and learn. We expect our community members honor these values and to include and respect individuals of all different backgrounds. These values allow for all Ojisu community participants to feel welcome and accepted in on the Ojisu platform. Healthy homestays and homestay coordinations require a mutual understanding of these values.

Participation in our community and use of Ojisu.com requires that all involved parties both include and respect individuals regardless of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or marital status, and that community participants do not discriminate Hosts or Guests based on these identities:

  • Ojisu Hosts may not:

    • Express a preference in Guests of particular race, color, ethnicity, national origin, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or marital status in listings or posts or communications with potential guests.

    • Decline Guests based on race, color, ethnicity, national origin, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or marital status.*

    • Impose special terms and/or conditions upon Guests of particular race, color, ethnicity, national origin, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or marital status.

    • Charge higher stipends or extra payments for Guests based on race, color, ethnicity, national origin, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or marital status.

      • Remember: In order to protect all parties involved, all payments are to be processed entirely through Ojisu. Hosts may not ask for or require additional payments from the Guests during the homestay to be paid directly to the Host, regardless of any circumstances.

  • Ojisu Hosts may:

    • Apart from those listed above, decline accommodations to, or impose special conditions upon individuals based on factors that are not prohibited by law or civil rights laws. For example, a Host may require that Guest who smokes smoke outside in a particular area, or decline a Guest who smokes, unless prohibited by law.

    • Provide factual, relevant information regarding a unit’s lack of accessibility, and then allow Guests with disabilities to personally evaluate whether or not the unit is suitable for their individual needs.

    • Expect or require Guests to honor and follow restrictions, that are clearly outlined on a profile, regarding foods consumed in a home and/or kitchen (ex. Vegetarian, kosher, or peanut-free kitchens or diets)

*Ojisu acknowledges that certain jurisdictions or local laws might either allow or require distinctions between individuals of particular origin, gender identity, sexual orientation, or marital status to be made. We do not urge Hosts to violate local law or subject themselves to legal liability.

If you have specific questions or concerns regarding any conflict between local law and Ojisu’s nondiscrimination policy please feel free to email us: host@ojisu.com
